Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Pulmonary amyloidosis is one of the possible manifestations of respiratory amyloidosis and is characterized by the deposition of protein fibrils in the pulmonary parenchyma under a nodular or diffuse way associated with the localized and systemic forms of AL amyloidosis, respectively. For being so rare and for not having specific symptoms or imagiological findings it is easily confused with far more common diagnosis such as of neoplastic origin. The diagnosis always requires confirmation with Congo-Red stain and green-apple birefringence under polarized light of the tissue sample. This paper describes the case of a 64-year-old man that presented to us with multiple pulmonary nodules and portal vein thrombosis. After the initial hypothesis of neoplasm we came to the diagnosis of localized pulmonary nodular amyloidosis. For further comprehension of this case some of the aspects of current literature about pulmonary amyloidosis and portal vein thrombosis are reviewed.
