Enhancing Sustainability Through a Circular Economy Approach
| Resumo: | This final Master's work investigates how sustainability strategies based on Circular Economy (CE) principles enhance organizational performance, reduce environmental impacts, and foster economic growth, with a particular focus on Patagonia as a case study. The research addresses the pressing need for industries to adopt sustainable practices amid global environmental challenges, including climate change and resource depletion. Through qualitative methodology, including document and thematic analysis of Patagonia’s sustainability reports and studies, the research provides an in-depth exploration of the company's innovative approaches to sustainability. The findings reveal that Patagonia has successfully integrated CE principles into its operations, demonstrating that sustainable practices do not detract from profitability but rather enhance overall organizational performance. Key strategies identified include resource efficiency, product lifecycle management, and collaboration across the supply chain, which collectively contribute to reduced waste and improved resource utilization. This research contributes to the existing literature by highlighting Patagonia's role as a leader in the outdoor apparel industry, setting a benchmark for other companies aspiring to achieve sustainability. It underscores the importance of an integrated approach when measuring organizational performance, where environmental and social dimensions are equally prioritized alongside financial metrics. Moreover, the study advocates for the broader adoption of CE strategies, emphasizing their potential to drive sustainable growth and resilience in businesses facing the complexities of modern economic and environmental landscapes. |
