Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Breast cancer is one of the tumors with the highest incidence in the world, it is the most common cancer in women. It presents rare subtypes such as carcinoma of the breast with neuroendocrine features. The breast cancer with neuroendocrine features belongs to a group of rare tumors, constituting less than 1% of all breast carcinomas and about 1% of neuroendocrine tumors. It was first described in 1977, however, it was only in 2003 that the WHO recognized and classified it. In 2012, the WHO defined it as a carcinoma with neuroendocrine characteristics - carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation, which displays morphological characteristics similar to those of neuroendocrine lung or gastrointestinal tract tumors. In this paper, we present two cases, a primary neuroendocrine tumor of the breast and an invasive ductal carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation. The difference in the classification of these two tumors lies in the evolution of the WHO classification. Both cases were identified, diagnosed and treated at Hospital Santa Maria. Since it is a rare tumor, we intend to introduce the entity, possible differences between these two tumor types, diagnostic, treatment possibilities and prognosis. It was also made a bibliographic revision using Medline, PubMed e UptoDate.
