Variáveis predictivas de readmissão hospitalar nas enfermarias de medicina
| Resumo: | Introduction: Early and long-term hospital readmissions is a current theme, bearing an economic and functional side. Faced with the financial crisis Portugal is going through, it is particularly important to reduce readmissions within 30 days, because they are more easily preventable. With this purpose, some risk prediction models for hospital readmission are conceived to define individuals at high risk of re-hospitalization . Objective: To determine the early and long-term risk factors for hospital readmissions and suggest a readmission model to be validated in Portugal. Methods: Studies of prediction models and variables for hospital readmission were conducted. Subsequently, the studied variables and the ones included in the models were analyzed. Results: The majority of the studies examined specific medical diagnoses or comorbidity index, prior use of medical services and socio-demographic determinants of health. Studies of early hospital readmissions most often analyzed characteristics of previous hospital readmission. Functional health status variables were less examined. Conclusion: We found some clinical variables that all together may be able to predict early and long term readmissions; however, it should be considered the study of prediction models of specific pathology. |
