O símbolo de uma pandemia : exposição temporária na FBAUL : junho 2021
| Resumo: | The seed, which gave life to this project, sprouted in the early days of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, detected in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019, which stands for “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2”. It is unequivocal the preponderance that this world event had in all the work, from its genesis, to its development and implementation. Two years after the appearance of this occurrence, we remain uncertain of its outcome, which, contrary to my optimistic view, will not cease (as I hypothetically predicted in the work of the first year of the Master's curriculum) in 2022. It was during the presentation of this work that the invitation and the opportunity arose to concretise a real exhibition. Having as a starting point the theme created in the first year: "The Symbol of a Pandemic", everything else turned into something more introspective, sensitive and singular: the way in which some students, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, artistically expressed their experiences, during the pandemic, in situations of social confinement. After launching a call for participation, for a temporary exhibition, to the students of the faculty, the selected works, and those of two invited artists, were the fundamental source material for the outcome of this project. To what point do extreme and unusual situations in our daily lives intensify our creative response and boost our artistic production, emerges as a central question. If on the one hand the Covid-19 pandemic brings us all together through a common evil, generating similar problems and experiences, on the other hand, the intrinsic way that each of us has to feel this same event is completely different. This evidence is reflected in the exhibited works, where the same theme is revealed through such diverse artistic responses and expressions. Besides the conception and implementation of the exhibition, a catalogue was also created, which documents and keeps for posterity the works of these artists and their testimonies in times of pandemic |
