A methodology for identification and analysis of city shrinkage effects in urban morphology and landscape

Resumo:Shrinking cities are one of the most topical issues in urban studies nowadays. However, studies on the consequences of urban shrinkage on landscape are not numerous. In this paper, a methodology for identifying and analyzing the effects of urban shrinkage on urban morphology and urban landscape is presented. Its purpose consists of identifying ruins and vacant lands through remote sensing operating upon open-source data. An example of application to a Portuguese shrinking city is also presented.
