Estratégias de reintegração cromática : figuras de movimento de Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro
| Resumo: | The theme of this project work has as its object of study the collection of Figures of Movement by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, belonging to the Aliança Underground Museum, a museum in the Aliança-Vinhos de Portugal cellars, in Sangalhos, Anadia, Aveiro District. The creation of the first movement figure dates from 1889. The collection consists of thirteen glazed and polychrome red clay figures, articulated by means of a wire that allows them to move to the touch. They consist of three parts: the head, the trunk and the legs. The torso and legs are glazed, and the head and hands are cold painted with oil or acrylic paint. The pieces are subject to extreme values of relative humidity (RH), 100%, which is why the carnations are in an advanced state of degradation, with a lot of detachment and wear, altered cold-applied polychromy and with chromatic reintegration’s, carried out in an action after the execution of the work, greatly modified. This project aims to deepen the knowledge about the original techniques and materials, and thus to select with greater security the appropriate chromatic reintegration strategies for each of the figures. It thus goes through several phases: a bibliographic survey on the historical and artistic context of the movement figures, on the materials and techniques used during the production process. The main challenge of this project is the chromatic reintegration, mainly due to the environmental conditions to which they are subjected when exhibited at the Aliança Underground Museum. It is also intended to propose an exhibition system for the pieces and that this is a protective structure against external agents that may damage the pieces during their exhibition. A dissemination plan will also be made to publicize all the steps carried out during this project work, from the registration of the pieces, through the conservation and restoration intervention to the final exhibition |
