Olhares sobre Maria uma empregada doméstica, retratos, silêncios e a casa memória

Resumo:This work is a museographic project for the exhibition “Views on Maria a Maid, Portraits, Silences and the Memory House.” The theme is linked to the defense of human rights in a profession characterized and called invisible by the women who perform it. It is known that domestic work in Brazil had its origins in the period of slavery, starting with maids and up to the present day, it is clear that prejudice exists and persists. The proposal of the museum project is to hold a traveling thematic exhibition, starting and opening at Machado Cafeteria e Buffet, a space where the roots and memories of the domestic worker Maria Neves Souza, the main character of this research, can be found. The target audience will be visitors in general, friends, family and researchers in the areas of sociology, anthropology, museology and history of RN. The collection presents a mix of objects, including items from personal collections focused on the daily lives of maids, including photographic records and artifacts, such as clothing worn by maids from the 19th century and documents that recall the old Natal of the period lived in. the cable car, the Cinema Polytheama and Royal Cinema, the shopping center of Ribeira, the first neighborhood of Natal, the Escola Doméstica, the old Presidente Kennedy Bus Station, among other points that will be mentioned here. It was through photographic records and thorough analysis that it was possible to draw a historical reference of time and space to support the investigation, thus giving meaning to everything that will be discussed in the next paragraphs of this work. Finally, this exhibition is expected to provide historical repair, recognition and visibility to the category of domestic workers from all over the world.
