Fígado gordo não-alcoólico : uma entidade emergente com potencial oncogénico
| Resumo: | Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is an entity only identified at the end of the 20th century, highly prevalent among the populations of western countries and whose oncogenic potential has been proofed due to the multiplicity of studies in patients with this disease. This work aims to summarize the essential and most recent information available on literature regarding Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, namely its etiology, risk factors, pathogenesis and diagnosis, in order to contribute to a bigger acknowledgement, prevention and detection of this chronic liver disease. Secondly, it is our objective to highlight the increasing importance of this entity as a risk factor for the development of Hepatocellular Carcinoma, in patients with and without cirrhosis. We also underline the histopathological differences of carcinomas that arise in the absence of cirrhosis, when compared to those arising when this condition is present. We summarize some of the main conclusions of a study that analyzed the influence of certain epidemiological characteristics in the development of Hepatocellular Carcinoma and compare the influence of those characteristics in the development of cholangiocarcinoma. Some of the main oncogenic pathways are also explained, mentioning the scientific foundations that support them. |
