Hormona anti-mulleriana: marcador da reserva ovárica
| Resumo: | Ovarian Aging is a central theme in the Fertility field. The mechanisms involved are complex and yet not fully understood. One of the main aspects related to ovarian aging is the assessment of the ovarian reserve. Many markers have been developed throughout the years but recently a new marker has been proposed, the Anti-Mullerian Hormone. The results obtained with this hormone in the last decade are promising. Its predictive ability in the context of Assisted Reproductive Technology may change drastically the way the approach to the patients and the fertility programs are executed. Changes in the way the counselling is made and a more individual approach to the patient can be expected. AMH has a wide range of applications that can go from assessing the gonadal state of patients submitted to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or ovarian surgery to predicting the age at which natural menopause occurs. The prediction of menopause may help predicting the fertility lifetime that is left to a woman which would revolutionize the way women manage the decisions concerning their reproductive life. AMH will therefore occupy a central position in reproductive medicine in years to come. |
