Resumo:This master thesis draws a contribution to evaluate the use of public spaces by the elderly population in peri-urban areas in order to plan and design public spaces better suited to the needs of its users and thus contribute to active aging. This study allows Landscape Architecture to work for the community by developing a methodology that has combined several methods. Information about the physical component of a place as well as its users, activities and the perception of themselves was gathered. The Parish of Moita, included in the category of peri-urban areas presenting a high rate of aging, was chosen as a case study. The potential and the framework of the parish within the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon were also considered in the selection process. The developed methodology allows the achieved outcomes to become recommendations taking into account users needs. It is also presented a proposal for intervention to one of the public spaces whose solutions aimed at increasing the quality of the space, resulting in the well-being and greater life satisfaction of the elderly population
