Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:In this essay, I analyze the Jornal Português, the official non-mandatory newsreel that complemented the screening of national and international films, with the aim of demonstrating how the mediation of neutrality in World War II contributed to converting Salazar into the protective father of the nation, sparing the Portuguese people from experiencing the horrors of conflict. Furthermore, this also reveals how relative Portugal’s neutrality proved since it was convenient not only to the country but also to the Allies and the Axis forces.
